Transcode Canon XF100 HD MXF video to ProRes 422 MOV for FCP X

If you have ever tried to import HD MXF videos to FCP X for editing, you must be staggering to see the files being gray and cannot be chosen for import. I encountered the same problem not long ago when I tried to import Canon XF100 MXF videos to FCP X on my Mac OS X Lion. After searching and consulting, I was recommended to try Aunsoft Video Converter for Mac. Thanks to this fantastic conversion tool, I successfully converted MXF to ProRes 422 MOV for FCP X
Following I would like to share my experience of converting Canon XF100 MXF to ProRes 422 MOV for FCPX editing on Mac Lion.

1. Load Canon XF100 videos to Aunsoft Video Converter for Mac
Connect Canon XF100 with Mac and transfer/backup the MXF files to Apple hard drive disk, run Aunsoft Video Converter for Mac as the perfect HD MXF video converter to transcode Canon XF100 videos to ProRes 422 MOV. Click the “Add” button to directly load the HD MXF videos.

2. Set output format and destination
After importing MXF videos to the program, click the format button to choose their output format, you can easily choose Apple ProRes 422 HQ (*mov) among the options of Final Cut Pro. Then click “Browse” to freely specify where you want to store the videos.

3. Convert HD MXF videos to ProRes 422 MOV for FCP X
After setting the output format and destination, click the “Start Conversion” button under the preview window and conversion from Canon XF100 MXF to ProRes 422 MOV starts immediately.
The time the conversion process takes depends on the size and number of the task.

After the Apple ProRes MOV is exported, just launch FCP X and follow File > Import to easily import XF100 videos to FCP X on Mac OS X Lion.

Tips:
Sometimes the output ProRes 422 MOV may have problems playing back. One problem I have encountered before is that the output file is only an audio track .mov file without the video. I consulted the customer service of Aunsoft Studio and they asked me to install apple codec package, which works just as it states. Here is the link of it: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1396.
